Quick answer

At the March 2019 Polaris spring dealer meeting at the Gaylord Palms in Kissimmee, Florida, PSX (then PSXDigital) demonstrated its Polaris Certified Websites, joined a dealer marketing workshop led by Polaris's Jordan Niquette, and drew the winner of a drone giveaway. This recap records that history and adds a checklist for working the next OEM meeting.

This is a dated company news post. In March 2019, PSX, then trading as PSXDigital, exhibited at the Polaris spring dealer meeting. It was held March 4 to 6, 2019, at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Kissimmee, Florida. We wrote this recap the week after, and we have kept its facts and its three highlights.

What we have added is for the dealer principal or sales manager who will attend the next OEM meeting: what the 2019 agenda tells you about where dealer marketing was heading, and a checklist for getting real value from the vendor floor.

If you came here for the certification news itself, read the companion post: what the 2019 Polaris preferred website provider announcement said. This page covers the meeting.

Our team noted at the time that, coming from the north, we hardly noticed the unusually cold weather Florida had that week. Thank you again to the dealers who took time out of a busy show to stop by. Their feedback shaped the next round of product and partner work.

Highlight 1: Polaris Certified Websites on show

The main reason we were there was to demonstrate PSXDigital's Polaris Certified Websites. The same week, PSXDigital announced that Polaris had named it among the earliest participants in the Polaris Certified Website Program. That announcement, and what the program covered, is in the companion post on the Polaris preferred website provider news.

The pitch on the floor was integration. A dealer's responsive website, inventory management, CRM and marketing automation ran together on CXMAi, with one login, so the store could see its sales and marketing activity in one place and give each shopper a more personal experience across the buying journey.

The original post listed percentage gains in two-way conversations, store follow-ups and sales. Those figures had no published source, so we have removed them. The show special we advertised was a limited-time 2019 offer, and it is not repeated here.

Highlight 2: The Polaris dealer marketing workshop

Jordan Niquette, Retail Channel Manager at Polaris Industries, led a workshop on dealer marketing best practices, with plenty a store could act on straight away. PSXDigital was proud to take part. The agenda had three parts:

  1. Funnel management
  2. Trends and best practices
  3. An introduction to Turnkey Programs

We are not reproducing the presentation here. At the time, dealers could ask their Polaris rep for a copy.

Highlight 3: The drone giveaway

Coming in a close third, we drew the winning entry in our giveaway for a Skydio R1, an autonomous flying camera that maps its surroundings as it flies. We liked the parallel: a tool that understands where it is in real time is what we wanted a dealer's website and CRM to do with each shopper.

Working the vendor floor at your next OEM meeting

Most of what is published about Polaris dealer meetings is trade-press coverage of what was unveiled. Powersports Business, for example, reported that the March 2020 Polaris snowmobile model launch and dealer meeting in Texas drew "a crowd of dealers over 900 strong." What that coverage leaves out is the dealer's side. You pay for the trip, you spend two or three days away from the store, and the vendor floor is crowded with pitches. Here is how to come home with decisions instead of brochures.

Before you go

  1. Write down your two biggest problems. For example, slow lead response or aged inventory. Visit only the vendors who claim to solve those.
  2. Pull your own numbers. Bring this month's lead count, response time and close rate, so a vendor demo is measured against your store, not theirs.
  3. Check what your OEM supports. Ask your rep which website or marketing programs the OEM currently runs, which vendors are in them, and what co-op terms apply. Do this before the show, not at the booth.

At the booth

  1. Ask for a live demo on your inventory type, not a slide deck. A side-by-side or snowmobile listing page tells you more than a homepage.
  2. Ask for proof with a name on it. A dealer reference you can call beats a percentage on a banner.
  3. Ask who owns what. Domain, content, data and the exit terms, in writing.
  4. Ask how leads reach a person. Follow one test lead from the form to the CRM to a salesperson's phone.

After the meeting

  1. Share the workshop takeaways within a week. Turn each into one owner and one date.
  2. Run one follow-up call per shortlisted vendor, with your sales manager in the room.
  3. Decide or drop. A pitch you have not acted on in 30 days was probably not solving your top problem.
